The county park has picnic tables but, as yet, no restrooms. The association doesn't have a shoreline park, only the park on Honu Street.
There are vacation rentals on and near the shore take a look at

for Pahoa area.

Another good place for vacation rentals is
http://www.bigislandvacationrentals.com/properties/. Tell them John from the Pahoa office sent you (it won't get you a discount or anything, but they are buddies of mine)

The hands down best spot for a vacation rental is The Rabbit & Dragon in Kapoho Beach Lots.

It is nothing fancy but when you see the private pond you will understand. Tell Mark & Ron that Aimee sent you. Be sure to tell them you will not feed them as I always do

Everyone, thanks for all the great input.
Here's another question. Are there any other roads in between Hawaiian Shores & HPP, besides 130? Any roads closer to the shore connecting the 2 developments?

There is the old Puna Trail road along the shoreline. But this is unpaved and rough; best with 4 wheel drive.

Aloha, If you follow Papio St. it becomes government beach road. it goes through the Keonopoko and Makuu areas along the coast, 4WD, very rough, nice view though. Kahala St. about halfway down the sub. follows the old railroad, is barricaded, but you can get around the blockades. This route is exremely rough and overgrown, not much more than a cowpath in places. Some of the property owners along the route have pushed up dirt to make travel more difficult. You would need very high clearence to get through, but I've gone that route once in a friends jacked samurai.

So, I guess this means there are NO actual paved roads connecting HS & HPP, east of 130?

Not at this time, but both Railroad and Beach Rd. are proposed routes for a secondary highway into lower Puna.
