There seem to be 2 pretty obvious partial solutions involving the new light. As it is, when the north bound light is green, the south bound light towards the older part of Pahoa remains red. If that lane had its own light that stayed green (as is used in most other such intersections) that would allow traffic to flow in both directions. Instead, it causes a backup. All those not living in Hawaiian Beaches or wanting to visit the older part of Pahoa could continue on. That should be fixed.

The right lane from Kahakai onto Pahoa Village Road towards Malama should have a green arrow when the south bound lane has a green arrow onto Kahakai. There is no conflict. Instead, the right turn lane remains red and every car must stop first. This should also be fixed. Yes this is going to require more lights and programming but we deserve at least a 20th century set up given that this is the only way to get anywhere for 10,000 of us and we get almost nothing back in services for what we pay in taxes. It is not acceptable for us all to just put up with this for 6+ months. Please contact your legislators and demand some action, or at least these 2 simple fixes.

"The right lame from Kahakai onto Pahoa Village Road..."

So accurate a description that it is way beyond a Freudian slip!
