Pointless thread
Interstellar flight? Oh boy! The TMT thread is now turning into a science fiction thread! Bring the pop corn dear!

But for real imagtek would you like to give us a primer?

I just watched the Martian last night ... After all this time thinking I already saw it,, but that was Interstellar ... Whoo hoo !!! horses for courses.

Interstellar flight primer:

Space is quantized. Google; M-superstring theory.
Since space is quantized, its information bandwith is finite. Google; Claude Shannon / information theory
Under information theory, space is a noiseless channel of finite capacity. There is no such thing as infinite channel capacity. If there was it would be called god.
Exceed the channel capacity of space and under the quantum theory of space, you have violated the conservation of energy.
Einstein's theory of relativity is based entirely upon the conservation of energy. It is, in fact, dictated by it.
Space warps to prevent violation of conservation of energy by spreading information across a larger volume of space.
Warping of space manifests in three dimensions as an acceleration.
A fractal boundary of infinite extent can exist within a finite area. A fractal surface of infinite surface area can exist within a finite volume defined by a magnetic field.
Use supermagnets to create fractal magnetic vortices of infinite surface area along a thrust vector and space warps.
The warping of space manifests as a thrust vector on the closed magnetic dipole system.
You have harnessed the vacuum energy of quantum space that manifest as an acceleration on the magnetic apparatus or, if the closed dipole system is immovable, a gravity wave.
This phenomenon exists in nature. Google; hyperfast pulsars

NASA eagleworks laboratories, supposedly exploring warp drives, is a clown show going nowhere with their BS. I used to work as a scientist for the federal government and quit in disgust.

This knowledge belongs to humanity. The knowledge to be gained atop Maunekea belongs to humanity. No one owns this. The only thing between humanity and the stars at this time in history is idiots. The idiots may win because time is running out for a technological civilization capable of building a starship. That is nothing personal. It is simply an observation.

My book on how to build a starship and fly to an extrasolar habitable planet 850 light years away is coming out in May/June timeframe on Amazon/Google. I'll let you know.

Puna is the last bastion of human freedom on earth.

The probability that I am merely insane is approximately 53.772%

Oh dear. I wouldn't even touch this with a barge pole as I'll cause serious offense to someone.

"[...]The spittoon of history contains the names of those who called Christopher Columbus a crank. In 1899 the greatest minds of 19th century science dogmatically asserted that heavier than air flight was physically impossible.[...]

PS. Just wanted to address this as I've seen it so many times before someone claims to revolutionize physics.

1) Everyone was well aware that the world was a sphere at the time Columbus set sail, and;

2) Only one scientist said heavier-than-air-flight was impossible, Lord Kelvin, not the greatest minds of the 19th century. Kelvin was well known for his own quite wacky theories about physics.

What next, bumble bees can't fly?

join the "YES TMT" FB group. Lot's of get togethers, great bunch of people. It's a closed site, (you need to be approved) it's a PRO TMT, if you are not pro, you get booted. Best part about it... You don't need to listen to the other camp bitch about how bad it is and make up stories and what not. I find it extra nice to be around people with common sense.

Have fun, but no thanks. I don't think it's particularly healthy to limit discussion to only those that have the same opinion, but of course you're free to do so.

Thank you Tomk, I agree with your last statement.

Some Interesting reading material from 15 years ago here. I recognized several names in this article who are now some of the protectors against the TMT project(these folks have always been there). Kind of shows ME how the state and TMT backers has tried to avoid the real issues surrounding Maunakea and its Hawaiian people for decades now, jmo. Our many politicians, universities, astronomers, and state departments like BLNR or the DLNR, have shown me its true colors throughout this TMT process.

Many positives have come from this TMT controversy, jmo. like the overall greater awareness of our islands resources. We also have been blessed to witness the Hawaiian people getting together again (their rise) to stand strong for things they believe in or want to protect like traditions, the aina, its resources, and the next local generation.

P.S. Tourism was an industry to help us not replace many of us?

Thanks for the link gypsy.
Would you be able to explain to me how Kealoha expects astronomers to maintain a site that she has created? Did she provide markings that would allow others to recognize it as her family stone, and not just one of many stacks of balanced rocks seen around the island? Seems to me like a stretch to blame the astronomical community for her anger over something which most likely was not in their job description:

One of the angriest is Kealoha Pisciotta, who, at 30, is as old as the age of modern astronomy in Hawaii.

On the way to her high-tech job, Pisciotta would take part in an age-old Hawaiian tradition. She would stop to worship on the flanks of the mountain, bringing small offerings to her family stone, or aumakua.

But that stone has been desecrated. Once, it was taken to the town dump. Once, it was carted off by a fellow telescope employee. And once it was overturned, strewing Pisciotta's aunt's ashes on the ground. Now the stone is missing for good, and Pisciotta, angry that astronomers did not do more to protect her stone, has resigned her position at the telescope.

What do you think gypsy?
