If you prefer wider options, choose between "random violence" and "personal violence".
Speaking for myself only: I prefer that those who choose violence do so in a manner that limits the side effects as much as possible.
Would we as a society be better off without violence? Perhaps, but that's apparently not on offer.

You guys are making too much out of there being 2 shots. With a semi-auto, 2 shots in such a situation can be almost instinctive as it can also be with some doubles. If a pump and some doubles, 2 shots could be more indicative of intent. As for how long a person can be held without charges, that can very by state. I don't know what it is in Hi.

It's my understanding that love disputes are the leading cause of homicide in America, well it was when I was in school a few decades back.
Regardless, I don't care why she left him or under what conditions, it's pretty foolish to leave your man for another who lives close by in a remote area. She and the new boyfriend should have co-habitated somewhere else out of the Beach Lots until things simmered down. A little respect goes a long way.

Which would you rather have? Random violence in the street, or a personal dispute between adults? Injured bystanders? "Be on the lookout for..." or someone calling the police to turn themselves in?
Compared to some of the crap that happens around here, this incident was downright civilized, to the extent that such a thing is even possible for a fatal shooting.

Here's an idea. If someone leaves you, realize it's for the best. You weren't compatible. Nothing gives you the right to go bat **** crazy and threaten violence. There is still a bit of truth to what you say, though. It is common sense if in an abusive relationship to get far away with no forwarding address. But if there's nowhere else to go just get away and get a restraining order. People aren't property and have the right to choose for themselves who to be with.
