The Hilo Trib has just published a news article regarding the placement of human remains at the TMT site:

http://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/news...d-tmt-site

"A Hilo man says an ahu built at the Thirty Meter Telescope site atop Mauna Kea should be protected after he deposited human remains there.

Palikapu Dedman, who is facing potential criminal charges, told the Tribune-Herald he placed iwi, or bones, belonging to an ancestor on the stone altar last September and then again earlier this month after realizing the first set of bones went missing.
"

There's a lot more to read in the article.

"first set of bones went missing".

Gee, sorry grandpa. Gonna have to dig out the last set soon at the rate things are going. Guess I'll have to find something else to jam under that one short table leg. But remember everybody ELSE must revere your bones.

Maybe it's time for both sides to admit they're playing the same game?

Point taken Kalakoa. However, I would respond with a couple of my own: the question is whether Palikapu Dedman will be prosecuted or not for his actions. He clearly believes that, as a (part) native Hawaiian, he is above the law that the rest of us must comply with. (If I had relocated burial remains and SHPD or the Burial Council got wind of it, I'm sure I'd find myself standing in front of a judge pretty quick.) The protectors are insisting, and have succeeded in, having the TMT application remanded back to BLNR to conduct the contested case hearing before issuing the permit, as BLNR should have done in the first place.
Which brings me to the second point: TMT did nothing wrong, BLNR and their Deputy AG screwed up, but TMT gets to pay the consequences in lost time and resources. Even when you do everything the State (or County) tells you to do, you can still get sandbagged. Doesn't encourage anything in the way of economic investment in Hawaii, by anyone...

Off-topic example: County inspected a concrete project and said "forms are good, go ahead and pour". After the pour, County said "no, this is all wrong, rip it out and start over."

Building remains empty due to lack of final.

So, you know when Ige was campaigning, Dedman asked him to be instructed in the Hawaiian culture, since he was the only representative left on Hawaii island. Ige nodded a lot, and Ralph Dedman schooled him on what a pono ancient Hawaiian was like, because that is what he is, a pono subsistence hunter.

He is one of the founders of Pele Defense Fund and is directly responsible for the county geothermal fund, claiming the settlement was for eternity, when it clearly said it ended with Governor Cayatano. Wonder if Ige knows he was being lectured to by a 3 time ex-felon?

That's an unfortunate photo. Dedman appears to have a volcano erupting from the top of his head.

PS. Almost worth a caption contest. The scary thing behind Ige just adds to the picture.
