Missing the point: if TMT fails, there will be far fewer opportunities. Why would anyone invest in "permits" that only allow years of lawsuits? Seriously.

Gypsy, your link discusses the possibility that Mauna Kea once had glaciers. It does not suggest that they exist now.

I brought up the "Ferry kept offshore" gaming and entertainment idea as an example of another possible direction our state could take if the TMT project finds no common ground and is not allowed on the Hawaiian's sacred ground of Mauna Kea.

As I mentioned on that thread, it's 100% impractical. We are in the middle of the Pacific in the hurricane zone. If the petitioners cause the TMT project to fail, $92 million a year spent directly on this island will slowly dry up with little expectation it will return. The tax revenues will also decrease so if you want to bitch about one road in and out of Puna, or potholes, lack of police, or any other public services you can only expect them to grow worse. In addition educational funds and opportunities will be gone forever, not to mention high paying jobs and brighter futures right here on the island. But perhaps you'd rather just have them working in more resorts (or your floating resort) instead.

All over what? Some people's views are blocked when they try to see a cinder cone from a specific spot? Or can't see an ahu on another island that is too far to see anyway? The petitioners have really not proven they are harmed at all by the TMT.

No, Gypsy, there are no glaciers on Mauna Kea. There were thousands of years ago, but not now, as the article you linked to makes clear. May I suggest that in future, you actually read and understand an article before you link to it thinking it supports your opinion?

I doubt it. She wasn't testifying as an expert witness (no-one is in the contested case hearing) and she may well believe her nonsense which would mean that even though it's wrong, it could be deemed as true to the best of her knowledge. However, I doubt it's helped her reputation.

Mauna Kea was a peaceful and calm mountain for many centuries or lifetimes. Mauna Kea should not be turned into a target for tourism, terrorist, hostile countries or deadly aliens today. jmo

Would anyone know how much electricity is needed for these lasers to work, say for one minute, one hour, one night?

Are there highly paid people really standing outside in the cold elements by these telescopes when they use these lasers? If so, Are they looking for airplanes to prevent possible blinding of pilots?

Would the TMT'S laser be bigger or more powerful than the other lasers currently being used on Mauna Kea?

Would the PGV power plant here in Puna be providing any of the electricity that may be needed to operate the TMT and it's laser in the future?
I was under the impression that it would be wrong to bring Pele or her "PGV gifts" to the place she was buried at the "summit of Mauna kea".
