"Are there highly paid people really standing outside in the cold elements by these telescopes when they use these lasers? If so, Are they looking for airplanes to prevent possible blinding of pilots?"
No, those highly paid people standing outside in the cold elements are simply there to count how many alien spaceships we shoot down and track where the debris and bodies fall. That way we can recover and hide them before anyone knows better. At the end of the night, they are allowed to swim and relax after a brief game of squash in the observatory squash courts and swimming pools on Mauna Kea.

PUEO will testify in support of the TMT at the contested case hearing on Tuesday, depending on what takes place today. PUEO is an acronym for Perpetuating Unique Educational Opportunities. PUEO is a non profit whose board members are all native Hawaiians. This is about all of us, not just a few of us.

AI means artificial intelligence. In this case, there is no intelligence
Disagree: feigning this level of ignorance requires an incredible amount of compute power.

That's a Hawaiian word, so it "belongs" to the protectors; your group will need to go ahead and change its name to something else.

One way or another, it will all be over soon.

President Trump and his new Attorney General, along with legislatures in several US states, are trying to turn dissent and public protests into criminal acts carrying prison sentences of 5 to 40 years.
Republicans in Washington state have proposed a plan to make any acts of civil disobedience that qualify as "economic terrorism" a felony. And what is "economic terrorism?" Anything the local police and prosecutors say it is.

public protests... carrying prison sentences of 5 to 40 years

Then, Protectors who think stopping the TMT is their stepping stone to political autonomy will finally get their wish. Perhaps smaller than they'd hoped for, but on the bright side all their friends will be there at their own cell block kingdom in OCCC Castle.
No child will ever again doubt they could grow up and someday become president of the United States

Make no mistake: holding revenue projects hostage is a form of "economic terrorism".
Never thought I'd support this idea, "land of the free" and all that, but here we are.

Nope, that would be a justification for civil war. I sure as hell would take up arms against any administration that took away our right to free speech and public dissent
Now might be an excellent time to discuss the importance of following rules to the exact letter of the law. Did the TMT, or State of Hawaii follow procedure? The protectors? What about if the situation changes or the laws change? Or does freedom of speech and the rule of law only apply to the people on one side of an issue, and not the other?
Can citizens protesting a divisive issue abuse their freedom of speech and ruin it for everyone? Is it even possible for freedom of speech be taken too far, and abused?

our right to free speech and public dissent
The right to free speech and public dissent is not absolute. Those "protectors" exercising their "rights" are about to cost local residents a chunk of their economy, not to mention the overall cost to our species. What about my rights as a member of both these groups? Do those rights not matter?
