I have nothing but the greatest respect for Kalepa Baybayan.
Pua Case cross examined Kalepa in the TMT contested case hearing and it was an interesting 25 minutes. If you have not seen it yet it's worth watching and here is the video.

With 23 parties having the right to speak up to 15 minutes and the BLNR led by Stanley Roehrig able to ask several following questions when ever they want. These upcoming Oral arguments may take more than a few days. let me leave you with one great video to watch again.

Not to trust one person, who is not even personally involved in the development or construction of a $1.4 billion project doesn't seem like a strong argument against the approval process.

Does this "don't trust" standard apply only to projects over a billion dollars? A million dollars? A dog house? If impartially and properly applied, we can all plan to move back into caves and lava tubes in the future.

Just watched the Kalepa Baybayan-Pua Case exchange. The discussion reminded me of something that I thought the first time I visited ‘Imiloa some years back: the concept that astronomy and native Polynesian way-finding are inherently linked is a stretch.

Also believe that perhaps just one person--definitely a pretty insightful individual--came up with this idea. Certainly it is a brilliant public relations strategy. (Big effort with all the displays in ‘Imiloa to establish the link.)

Obviously the intent is for the astronomy field to claim native Polynesian "cred" by sharing a mission with this group--exploration of the stars.

But again, the link seems tenuous. To the Polynesian wayfinders the sky was(is) largely a map for navigation. A tool, as it were. Their objective is not knowledge about the sky (other than novice wayfinders memorizing star patterns), it is seeking knowledge of their whereabouts on the ocean (continually tracking their whereabouts).

Astronomy, briefly, seeks knowledge about the universe. Am I mistaken?
