Excitement in Tiki Gardens

For all you pro-pot smokers out there, remember what a cop once told me.....
I got stopped one night and the police officer found a small amout of weed. "I said what's the big deal with a little weed".
What he said was simple, "The guys you buy this stuff from use the money to buy bullets to shoot at me".
It's a drug and sold by drug dealers.
Would you want your kids smoking pot?

Well PunaGirl, as perhaps one of the members here that might know you just a bit, you really had me LMAO. I remember Kona Gold from the 70's and the harassment aspect was already underway - but perhaps it hadn't been officially named at that point. I'm very tempted to go into my "the law is big business and no one has any idea of the percentage of the economy is involved" rant, but that's a bit off topic and I need to save myself for wall erection. Smile

Good to see you posting again. WOW, 3 years already!!!

Thanks Les and Kahunascott one more reason to legalize it,it takes the bad guys out of the picture.Remember the original gangs the mafia ect fighting and killing over alcohol before it became legal. Can you imagine our poor ancestors fearing they would go to jail for having a drink of beer.Funny you mention "people coming up from mexico" as one of the reasons pot became illegal was so that police had a "REASON" to arrest black jazz musicians and mexicans.
I teach my children that all drugs(including alcohol) are unhealthy for their body, mind and spirit, but just like ALMOST EVERYBODY I'm sure they are at least going to try it, even our presidents admit to it,and I would prefer it if they tried pot over legal alcohol.
so its only a matter of time I'm thinking by the time generation Xer's get into higher political offices you'll see changes.
Maybe we could use all the TAX REVENUE from legal pot to fund social security then maybe "I'll be able to get it when I retire".
Just think how great it will be when our now over crowded prisons full of men in jail for smoking marijuana will have room for all the assulters, rapists and child molesters that go free everyday.Maybe we could use some of the tax revenue to pay for the HUGH backlog of DNA evidence to convict rapists that will never get tried because the moneys not there. But wait thats a crime against women and nobody cares about making the streets safer for women, no putting pot smokin daddys in jail and taking their home/car is more important. That makes it easy for the rapist/child molester no daddy round an all.

Check out this link it shows how much money is being spent how many are arrested ect. whoo! very interesting

"The guys you buy this stuff from use the money to buy bullets to shoot at me".

or the newer line "it funds terrorism"

which actually proves why they should stop green harvest terrorism(if it were true!)
because the people are just trying to grow so they don't have to buy................

Yea and Ive lived here almost 20 years...

Never have I heard of anyone in Puna shooting at the cops. I would say you are new to the island and are comparing it to California...

Which it is NOT!

Lets not change this great place into something all you left behind in search of paradise....

Great response Punagirl! Even though I am 100% pro-legalization of pot (and all drugs for that matter, but a much bigger topic) I can also empathize with Nancy's feelings. For example, I don't really mind if people deal drugs or engage in prostitution in general, especially if it doesn't make my neighborhood in Oakland feel like a ghetto or result in other crimes involving guns and such. So I call cops on the hookers near my block and when I suspect drug dealers to make my neighborhood a less friendly place for that, especially in a town with many industrial areas where nobody lives.

In general, people in the pot trade are probably quite a bit different than in other drug trades and meth/Ice is a far worse problem, both where I live and in Puna. If I lived very close to a pot growing area and was concerned that other crminal activity could be involved (don't know how true rumors of people protecting their growing areas with firearms or other means of discouraging exploration around them really is), I might want something done about it. So while I agree these busts really don't have much positive impact and have a lot of negative impact, I can understand how Nancy appreciates police action in her neighborhood. And I hope she doesn't feel too attacked to keep her from posting again in the future.

California? Hopefully you're considering Northern! : )

Hi Rob - I am considering N. Cal but the budget forces us more towards the Central Valley. I want to be within a 3 hr drive of my sister in LA. Of course, Hawaii is still our first choice but now that we are working on the baby thing I am worried about schools & ice problems. We are just exploring all options at this time. We are even considering Oahu. I'll try to call you next week and we can catch up.

Regardless of where we end up we will still build on our land. It might just be more of a vacation home/rental property for the time being. We plan to buy more land when we visit later this year.

A few comments on the response to my post. The majority of the people in jail aren’t there for smoking pot but in selling and smuggling it.
The comment about cops not getting shot here….do you have to wait until it happens to prove a point? Remember those who sell ICE also sell weed, they are drug dealers.
The growers that need to protect their fields just might take a shot at anybody in the area, no? Also how about the booby-traps??? How would you feel about a bunch of kids wondering off and getting seriously hurt in one of these contraptions?
Plus, you can’t hold a real job if you’re a weed smoker with the pre-employment drug screening. The chance that any time during your employment you might win the lottery and be called to the doctor to pee in a cup.
I’ve been in the construction industry for 25 years and one of the best things done is to randomly screen for drugs. The last thing I want is the guy operating the crane next to me to be stoned or drunk.
If it becomes legal so be it, but while it’s not it is a crime.
