I vote for Big Black Bee poop (the big carpenter bees). They squirt it out when they are hovering looking for wood to burrow into.

Thanks again everyone. It does wash off quite easily.
Bee excretions, that could be(e), I do see them sometimes around here and that would explain the odd places it turns up.

Loads of geckos in the house (unfortunately) but never seen this splatter inside. It's too much volume for it to be a roach or anything that small.

I don't think it's fungus, I noticed one of them has distinct splatter marks, like it was dropped directly from above. The rest were all round or oval.
