Home Defense Shooting? Or Mistaken Victim?
#21
Most exterior doors installed these days have windows in them.

...in which case you could see whether the intruder was posing a threat, right?

Too few facts to draw a conclusion.

No, it's pretty clear something stupid happened...

I'll take that challenge. How do we settle this? I don't really want to tell the story of my experience with a home invasion again. I"ll shorten it. Mission accomplished. No shots fired. Held the bad guy at gunpoint for the cops to haul away.

Should we settle it with a chess match? This gun owing clear headed democrat cannot stand, and did not vote for Trump. I am strong on human rights, gay rights, women's equal pay, freedom of choice, not an NRA member, anti-wall, anti Trumps tax bill, voted for Obama twice and proud of it. I'm pretty clear headed even though I'm on lupron for prostate cancer. I"m for stricter federal gun laws, I don't generalize about groups of people. Been called a traitor at firearm forums because I don't believe AR-15 type guns belong in the hands of civilians.

Here's my first move: 1.Nf3....your turn,.

And so it begins again. The never ending gun arguments.

Since I will say this one time only... keep it local or it goes away.

Assume the best and ask questions.

keep it local

Just to be crystal clear folks, that's local, not loco.

It hasn't even been mentioned yet, but the sailor who was killed lived next door. He came home drunk at 3 AM and went to the wrong house (they all look the same). The homeowner shouted at him once through the door to go away, then fired a shot through the door at head level that killed him. There's nothing reasonable about this situation.

Surprising the amount of discord here and also the unduly complicated arguments.

Based on the facts we can assert that ideally the shooter should not have fired, but if the shooter sticks to his story that he felt threatened he ought to be able to fend off a prosecution.

Especially if he states that the victim persisted in trying to open the door after he was told to go away. Prosecutor has burden of showing he was not in fear. And the shooter might be a person with a justified paranoia of home invasion (prior event).

(By the way generalizations help us understand the world. Opposition to generalizing is liberal claptrap.)

Its hard to say what anyone would do in that situation but I wouldn't fire thru a door unless someone was trying to kick it in, vigorously, in a threatening manner. I wouldn't shoot at head level either. I think I'd wait till the door got kicked open so there would be a real reason to shoot. Not to mention evidence of malicious intent.
One Thing I can always be sure of is that things will never go as expected.
