BAD NEWS!!**~~ Due To unforseen adverse weather conditions, the dive for today, Sunday, August 27, 2006 has been cancelled. There is a flash flood warning for the entire Big Island, with unstable atmospheric conditions. Broken down into plain english that means it could bring lightening and thunder, along with heavy downpours. I live along the Bay in Hilo and it rained all night with occasional thunder and lightening. "SORRY" folks, this "CANCELLATION" is in the interest of Safety. Next weekend is Labor Day weekend. We can try scheduling another dive then. I hope most of you read this posting before driving into Hilo. We will set up contingency plans for something like this in the future. Meanwhile, try avoiding driving today in low lying areas. We don't want to lose anyone. Chili

Chili:

You might want to change the title of this thread so the "CANCELLATION" shows up in the title. Then it can be seen on the main page and people can see it without scrolling to the end of the thread. Only you can do this since you started the thread initially.

Hopefully next weekend works out better.

Chili here one more time. Since I live the closest to Richardson's beach park, I'm going to drive down there and wait with a dive cylinder beside my car to identify me to anyone who may have thought the dive was still on. I'll be there between 8:45 and 9:30 this morning to let those who have not checked this web site know the bad news about the cancellation. Our club has been delayed this weekend, but it will come together. Aloha to all of you. p,s. I sure have a lot of cole slaw, hot dogs and buns to freeze until the next meeting......Chili

Sorry to here about the weather everybody I was looking forward to hearing about the dive everybody had. My name is Calen and I am new to the site and next year to the area if all works as planned. Does anybody know where to get nitrox on the island? (hopefully close) because I dive on a rebreather.

Now that it is noon and the sky is clearing slightly up here on the mountain, I find myself EXTREMELY disappointed at this mornings call... but safety is safety and i stand behind it. So who is up for next weekend? I know it is a holiday weekend, so I want to know whether to get food and gear and such ready? How about a head count please?? It's not a commitment, just an intent..... Thanks. Pam

Of course now it is a beautiful warm sunny day with a gentle breeze blowing. Ideal for a dive.

I'm probably in for the dive next weekend but will say for sure later in the week.

My wife and I and our oldest son were there this morning. We ran into Chili, he told us about the cancellation, but it was such a great day we went out for a snorkel anyway. I hate to be the one to says this, but it was the best dive/snorkel conditions I have ever seen at Richardsons. Water was clear and calm, and there was not a noticeable current at all. Not to mention that the sea life was in great abundance. I wish you guys could have been there to share the experience.
Aloha,
Mark
