I spoke with Carnac the Magnificent Tuesday, and he is most upset that the sacred riches of Ra the Sun God are being stolen by infidels for crass commercial purposes. He stressed "these rays are sacred to us".


I foresee protests to block the construction.

Under the Kapu system the punishment for casting a shadow on the Ali'i or his property was death. So there is cultural historical precedent for messing with the sun's rays.

Ridiculing the culture of the Hawaiian people is offensive and immature. When I first learned of Punatalk, I was appreciative of the many insights shared. Over time, I recognized that it's a bulletin board largely to help newcomers. My wife and I are lifelong residents of Hawaii, though have lived in Puna for only 8 years,and we appreciated what we learned.

I am saddened that Punatalk seems to be increasingly the forum for snarky newcomers who flaunt their assumed superiority. Essentially it is racism.
