You do realize the only qualification for those 'near the top' is loyalty to the king, right? All the people, and all their science, that know anything about what they are doing have been thrown out already (talk about conspiracies!). All in the name of making us great...

No, for my money, a dash of Corona mixed with a jigger of Trump is a sure fired receipt for disaster. Ain't it a bitch.

Johns Hopkins (the source he was trying to connect to) receives billions in federal government dollars. It's not unreasonable for him to expect their web site not to behind a paywall.

Puna received millions in lava recovery federal funding, and yet owners of homes and lots still don’t have access to their land.
The Pentagon gets trillions of dollars in government money and yet we don’t have free public access to their computer systems. Some information is proprietary, private, or classified.

You can do better than that, I know you can!

I don't rely on either Fed. or State government officials to provide on time accurate information.

2 sites for current  corona virus information remain my favorites . One is from Singapore   ...cna......
https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/top...082018_cna
I check the charts daily to see the direction of the epidemic in both mainland China as well as the rest of the world.
I trust  cna's reporting
.The other site is the Lancet,
The link below is an unsettling report of those on the front line in Wuhan.  Medical workers giving their all.https://www.thelancet.com/journals/langlo/article/PIIS2214-109X(20)30065-6/fulltext
I wish them well and let's hope this is not repeated here in our hospitals

P&G warns 17,600 products possibly hit by coronavirus

ETA:

Consumer goods giant Procter & Gamble has warned around 17,600 products could be affected by the coronavirus.

P&G’s CFO Jon Moeller, speaking at the Consumer Analyst Group of New York conference in the US, said P&G used 387 suppliers across China, shipping more than 9,000 materials.

“Each of these suppliers faces their own challenges in resuming operations,” he said.

Smartphones and cars are among the consumer products most affected by the outbreak, according to TrendForce.

TrendForce said forecasts for product shipments from China for the first quarter of 2020 had been slashed, by 16% for smartwatches (to 12.1m units), 12.3% for notebooks (30.7m units) and 10.4% for smartphones (275m units). Cars have dropped 8.1% (19.3m units).

“The outbreak has made a relatively high impact on the smartphone industry because the smartphone supply chain is highly labor-intensive,” said a report.

It added: “Although automakers can compensate for material shortage through overseas factories, the process of capacity expansion and shipping of goods is still expected to create gaps in the overall manufacturing process.”

TrendForce expects the global auto market to suffer a 14% decline year-on-year in the first quarter of 2020, which it described as “largest decline in recent years”.

Analysts Mintec said the virus was “swamping” markets with uncertainty.

In a report, it predicted coronavirus would have a worse impact on the global economy than the SARS outbreak in 2003.

It predicts Chinese demand for copper (it has hitherto been responsible for consuming half the world’s output), will fall by 500,000 tonnes this year, and falls in demand have already impacted prices. From December to January the price of copper fell 9.6%.

Chinese demand for crude oil is already down by 20%. Before the outbreak China consumed 13% of global oil output.

Mintec said: “Millions of people have been affected by the travel lockdown in Hubei province, the centre of the outbreak. This has been responsible for a glut of jet fuel and diesel on global markets at a time when petroleum supplies were already abundant.”

Mintec said the price of crude oil fell 15% month-on-month at the end of January, hitting its lowest level since December 2018.

Other products affected include pork – the price has rocketed 167% year-on-year and 11% month-on-month to the first week of February – and chicken, where ships carrying it from the US to mainland China are being diverted to ports in Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam.

Supplies of garlic are also under threat (China commands 80% of the export market), along with dried ginger – prices delivered to the US have grown by 26% quarter-on-quarter.

Not surprisingly, investors are flocking to the safe-haven commodity, gold. By mid-February, prices were already 7% higher compared to December.

Remember, we simply must outsource everything to the cheapest possible country in order to guarantee profit margins for the corporations. Stability of the food supply and our national security interests are irrelevant because these problems do not affect the wealthy.

Homeland Security Acting Deputy Secretary Ken Cuccinelli needs your help.

It does take a unique level of naivete to post something even appearing this ignorant on twitter and not expected to get roasted. It's part of what twitter does best (along with allowing John Hopkins to post 10 mins before HomelandKen was confused that an overload of traffic caused their map to crash https://twitter.com/JHUSystems/status/12...1534238721)

In Hawaii, the feds are securing a hanger on Oahu for storing supplies for responses to catastrophes (which, once the repairs are complete, could also make a good FEMA camp Wink

I guess Hawaii is unaware that the recommended quarantine period is now 24+days.[?]

If you depend on Mirandas in Shipman Park for animal feed, better hurry up they are running out and no shipments scheduled for 2 to 3 weeks. I barely got what I needed and I thought it was sweet the first place I'm seeing the shelves clearing is for Pet not human food. We do love our animals.
