Wuhan Corona Virus Coming Soon? (Now Here)

I don't want to see thousands die needlessly on the Big Island, but you're right.

Time for discussion is long over. Sorry 007, your thesis is so last month. There is no answer to any discussion but lock it down. And if it takes a man with a gun to enforce it that's fine by me.

Incite rather than insight into the problem?

No edge, I am trying to impress upon 007 the seriousness of a matter he, apparently, thinks is far less serious than I. That's all.

the seriousness of a matter

You've followed the course of actions and decisions made by politicians across Hawaii and the nation over the past month. Their statements one day were reversed the next as they finally recognized the seriousness of the epidemic. Even Ige.

Is Harry moving fast enough? Not for me. He's stubborn on top of everything else. But what will likely urge him in the right direction, threats or repeated facts? If the answer is neither, then threats are just wasted effort. Should we incrementally lead a tired, doddering old donkey to water, there's at least some chance he'll drink, eventually, like almost everyone else who went there kicking and screaming.

Edited to add: Just to be clear (knieft?), “...tired, doddering old donkey...” is not name calling. It’s discriptive.

Sorry, but "criminally negligent" is about as civil and respectful as I can manage when it comes to Harry Kim right now. My neighbors and I use more colorful language in private . . . over the phone or at least 10 feet apart of course.

Some people will take steps to isolate, others won't, and it probably doesn't matter what Harry says. Closing the parks and keeping the bars and restaurants open is completely backwards. At least the parks have fresh air and sunshine (necessary vitamin D) and if you want to eat or drink you have to bring it in, it won't be prepared by someone else. Well, unless you got it from a food bar somewhere, foolish in my book but again, people will make their own decisions as to what is safe and sane.

The restrooms are the obvious weak point, but in a park there is more chance that a person will avoid touching anything and wash up back at the car. I see the bars and restaurants doing way more harm than good, but the parks may actually have more benefits to our health and well-being than detriments.

Ige may supersede Harry’s inaction. News conference at 3 PM:

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) -The governor is expected to issue a sweeping "stay-at-home order for the state Monday in a dramatic push to stop the spread of coronavirus.
Oahu and Maui have already issued similar orders, saying that only “essential” activities should continue while the threat of pandemic remains.
The governor is planning a news conference for 3 p.m. at the state Capitol.

Ige pulled the trigger according to Hawaii News Now:

The 21 new cases in the last day probably gave him no choice. At least it's done and out of Harry Kim's feeble hands.

Edited to add: The link I posted here is the same as in HOTPE's post, but the story has been updated to indicate that the order is done rather than expected.
