On Monday, 29 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in the islands, taking the state total to 204.
That’s more that double the number of cases since last Wednesday.

hokuili,
"the lord helps those who help themselves" Compassion is one thing but many of the problems brought on people are self inflicted. A choice.
The pandemic is tragic, Many lives are being lost. But let us reflect the fact that many people die everyday needlessly. We accept those deaths for convenience. People could eat more healthy, loose weight and prevent millions of deaths related to that, Diabetes, heart failure, smoking etc. Few tears or empathy is given or nary a thought about those preventable tragedy's. The yearly flu kills hundreds of thousands each year. Aside from those who are directly affected not one word spoken.
Yet we are, half the worlds population coming together to fight the spread of this pestilence. Meanwhile, many of those people without work, without means to pay for expenses are hurtling towards financial destruction. Sure some will get a bailout check, and many will spend it wisely but many wont and that is the Choice they will make.
The pandemic is merely the stone thrown into the pond, the waves it has created will reach far and wide. Those ripples will travel slow but most assured they will reach the shoreline of everyone.
Help who you can, if you can. But dont let yourself become a victim in the process. Its not your fault for other peoples choices.

The Cannes Film Festival was canceled this year but the building doesn’t sit empty. It’s too bad Puna’s classic venue for cinema, The Akebono Theater, burned to the ground or it might serve a similar, temporary purpose.
Cannes festival venue opens doors to homeless instead of cinema figures
The annual film festival in the palm-fringed French Riviera resort had been due to take place from May 12-23, but last week organizers postponed the event until late June.
The festival hall opened its doors to the destitute on Friday. "We have between 50 and 70 people here every night," said Dominique Aude-Lasset, an official at Cannes Town Hall.

Don’t mention money, kander. It proves you don’t care about lives.
You will be censured by those who have moral superiority...and certainty about every form of reality that exists.
A zinger I read recently: a million is to a trillion, as one penny is to $10,000 dollars. I was going to do a similar comparison as to the death rate, and maybe the money cost per saved life but decided not to, since I didn’t want to give anyone an opening to re-remind me that I have no humanity.
Statistics. They suck. They don’t take into account human suffering....
Cheers,
Kirt

CDC considering recommending general public wear face coverings in public
Which, in part reads...
Officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are considering altering the official guidance to encourage people to take measures to cover their faces amid the coronavirus pandemic, The Washington Post has learned.
CDC guidance on masks remains under development, according to a federal official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because it is an ongoing matter of internal discussion and nothing has been finalized. The official said the new guidance would make clear that the general public should not use medical masks — including surgical and N95 masks — that are in desperately short supply and needed by health-care workers.
Instead, the recommendation under consideration calls for using do-it-yourself cloth coverings, according to a second official who shared that thinking on a personal Facebook account. It would be a way to help “flatten the curve,” the official noted.

I think people grasp it better when using time as a comparison. A million seconds is about 12 days, a billion (a thousand million) seconds is about 32 years, a trillion (a thousand billion) is almost 32,000 years.
ETA: Get used to the term Quadrillion: One thousand trillion: Almost 32 million years. It was the amount of money in "derivatives" several years ago.

Austria is now requiring grocery shoppers to wear masks. Here's a recent quote on the subject.
At the same time, some places that adopted nearly universal mask-wearing and intensive social distancing early on, like Hong Kong, were able to contain their outbreaks. George Gao, the director-general of the Chinese Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, has called not wearing face masks “the big mistake in the U.S. and Europe.”
