The total number of COVID-19 cases in Hawaii rose from 26 to 37, one of which is a child, state health officials said Friday.
Two of the 11 cases confirmed by commercial laboratories are considered Hawaii’s first community transmitted cases, said Hawaii Department of Health Director Bruce Anderson.
The two people live on Oahu and are not related or associated with each other.
“It’s (community transmission) beginning and we need to maintain social distancing, make sure we follow the directions we’re providing, hand washing and avoiding large crowds, things that everyone should be doing,” he said. “It’s time to step up and take what we’re recommending seriously.”

At least two people, including a 37-year-old Waikiki bartender, are on life support and ventilators in Hawaii hospitals due to the new coronavirus.
Six people are in the intensive care unit as the number of new coronavirus cases jumped by 29 from Sunday to 204, the vast majority of them local residents, state health officials said at a news conference Monday.
Of the 29 new cases, one is a child, while the rest are adults over the age of 18, including a TSA screening officer at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport. Roughly 60 individuals have been discharged from local hospitals and are now considered recovered.
The virus is now spreading in localized areas among residents, though state Health Director Bruce Anderson has declined to disclose specifically where the transmission of COVID-19 is occurring in the community.
To date, there have been 8,700 lab tests, most of them conducted by private laboratories. State and private labs can now test up to 1,500 people a day, the third-highest rate in the nation, officials said.
Lt. Gov Josh Green warns that if people do not listen to the government’s social distancing rules, Hawaii could see 8% more cases in two days, 15% more cases four days later and 43% more cases on the sixth day.
“If we are not perfect in our ability to social distance and to stay at home … this is how fast it goes bad for us,” Green said. “Those 43% more cases represents hundreds of people that will test positive for COVID-19. That is how we lose. That’s how people die in the state of Hawaii.”
He is estimating the peak in the number of coronavirus cases is about three weeks away."

Hawaii Department of Health officials said today that the state’s tally of coronavirus cases has risen to a total of 224 and includes the first death in the islands.
The total number of cases today is up 20 from Monday, mostly on Oahu.
Health officials provided no details on the first fatality.
The department mistakenly reported the state’s first death last week, but later said there had been a testing error and that the person died of other causes, not COVID-19.
Of all the confirmed cases in Hawaii since the start of the outbreak, 13 have required hospitalizations, state health officials said today.
Today’s statewide total includes 157 cases on Oahu, 25 in Maui County, 15 on Hawaii island, and 12 in Kauai County, according to health officials. Of those county cases, a total of 19 were non-residents of Hawaii: six on Oahu, five in Kauai County, and four each in Maui County and n the Big Island."

"An Oahu woman who was hospitalized after contracting the coronavirus died last night, state health officials said.
Gov. David Ige announced the second coronavirus-related death in Hawaii this afternoon.
“Today, our community received the tragic news of the passing of a second Hawaii resident from the COVID-19 virus. Dawn and I express our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and friends,” Ige said in a news release announcing the death.
“As we come together with expressions of sympathy and support – we must also remember to help each other, to protect your health and the health of loved ones and your community. Let’s all do our part to get Hawaii through this challenging time.”"

"Hawaii registered its third coronavirus related fatality Friday, the same day the state’s total number of documented infections surpassed 300.
The elderly Oahu man had traveled to Washington state earlier in March, Hawaii News Now reported. The man was Oahu ethnobotanist Art Whistler, 76, according to the report.
According to the Department of Health, he had been hospitalized in critical condition on life support for several weeks.
The news was a “tragic reminder of the virulent and contagious nature of this virus,” said DOH Director Bruce Anderson in a statement."

“ The total number of people tested positive on Hawaii Island is 24 with 15 recovered and the remaining 9 are quarantined at home with Department of Health monitoring. At this date for Hawaii Island, no one that has been infected by the virus had to be hospitalized.”

"Hawaii reported 32 new cases of COVID-19 in the islands and one death on Oahu Saturday as the total case count grows ever higher.
So far, 19 people have been hospitalized for treatments — one more than Friday — and 84 people have been released from isolation.
Oahu had 29 new cases, while Hawaii County, Maui County and Kauai County had two new cases each.
State officials have identified the fourth death as a man from East Oahu who was over 65 years old, had traveled and was hospitalized.
