Pretty bold to hold this in broad daylight, on 18th Street. Don’t forget everyone, your gambling winnings are taxable.
a residence on 18th Avenue in Hawaiian Paradise Park, where it’s estimated more than 100 people were attending the cockfight.
During their search of the residence and property, police recovered 25 dead birds; four injured birds; cockfighting paraphernalia, including gambling records; and a small amount of marijuana. Homeland Security officers also seized about $20,000 in cash.

and a small amount of marijuana
People who have a large amount find better ways to entertain themselves.

Someone on another thread asked why land values in the middle of HPP were lower than near the highway or ocean. 100 people shouting, screaming, waving $100 bills in the air at a cockfight down the road could be a contributing factor. Best to put that on the sellers disclosure form when deciding it’s time to move to a quieter neighborhood.

Clearly an impediment to gentrification.

Clearly an impediment to gentrification.
Makes a lot on Ala Kai for $600,000, with neighbors sitting on their patio sipping a cabernet or Pinot look like a relative bargain.
Cockfighting seems a little daft, you train the bird to some degree, you bet money on the bird, if you lose you get a dead bird and give some doofus your money. Or in this case, you give the cops all your money and drugs. Do they ever sing along with that Carly Simon song, Anticipation, while attending these events? “These are the good old days…”

Ironically, did you know that it is a federal felony on the ATTENDANCE of a dog or cock fight?
As part of the 2014 Farm Bill, Congress added the following provisions:
"The newly enacted Animal Fighting Spectator Prohibition Act, which was included in the final 2014 Farm Bill, makes it a federal felony to knowingly bring a minor under the age of 16 to a dogfight or cockfight, punishable by up to three years in prison and a $250,000 fine, and a federal misdemeanor to knowingly attend a fight as a spectator, punishable by up to one year in prison and a $100,000 fine."
So, in addition to the 3 people arrested for hosting this event, why weren't the other 100 spectators arrested and charged under this federal rule? Were minors present??

When we are in the mood for some really crazy fun, and, I highly recommend that you try this.* This is so great you won't believe it. OK, so turn on YouTube and watch as much old Steve Martin stuff as you can. You will laugh so hard. Really you will. OK, and once you are all Steved up, go put on your nicest most mainlandy outfits. OK, here's where it get's really really fun. So you jump in the car and go to all of the Concentrated Rooster Operation (CRO) facilities that you can find in your neighborhood. Now, here is where you channel your best Steve Martin. If you have the arrow or rabbit ears, go with it. March right up to the gate or the door, hooey as loud as you can. Now, when the Roosterateer opens the door, YOU, channeling Steve Martin, greet them with a big, loud, goofy, mainlandy greeting, waive a $10 bill in their face and oozing that you are doing the poor farmer a big favor, simply say, ....."we, would like to purchase, one dozen eggs!"
*Do not try this at home! We do not actually recommend that you try this. Approaching CRO facilities, acting goofy, channeling Steve Martin, and/or being mainlandy could result in serious bodily injury (AKA Dirty Likins) and even death. Only trained professionals should ever approach CRO facilities. The author of this post is not responsible for any cracks received by anyone attempting any of the above.

I've lived in HPP for 35 years and there's always been cock fighting and cruelty to dogs going on. The cops can't do much because it rarely gets reported. Most people around here are good people, but a certain percentage have always been stupid and cruel.

I agree. For the "Land of Aloha", it certainly doesn't seem to apply to animals. It's heartbreaking to see how they are treated here. Seems worse here than anywhere else I've lived.
