Punapetah,we were thinking of two concerts. One around March 22 and the other May 10.We thought we should let the holidays pass, start in spring. What do you think?....Try wait....pausing to video helicopters on this Thanksgiving day.Don't those guys ever give us a break?....Okay back to the blog.

Nightowl I liked your distress call,it was funny. And so ,so right.

I also agree with Punapetah, that we need someone to edit vidoe...Calling all pros.,calling all pros...we need donated: experts Of all types, petition signers, letter writers, picketers, bands,
concert space, grant writers, fundraisers, promotions and all kinds of things. We want to think outside the box to make the mission a success.

Thanks again all
HAPPY HOLIDAY

Thought I would post this here also so that everyone has the information. some good suggestions and ideas have been made and I have discussed many of them with our flight staff. I will try to spend more time on the Blue Hawaiian site and appreciate you comments.
I would like to get to the “meat and potatoes” as someone put it. There are several variables we can work with. The basics of course are routes and altitudes. A new one that has come up in our conversation is the management of flight profiles with regards to blade loading and the resulting changes in sound profiles. I think we can make some improvements there by trying to minimize power changes and maneuvering while over populated areas. I am also going to work with the pilots on the altitudes we use enroute to and from the eruption site. I would be interested in hearing if there is a noticeable change in the next few weeks.

As you know, the weather can limit our altitude, but I have noticed that on days this is not a factor, we tend not to take full advantage of the conditions. Let’s start there and see if we can take a step forward on the issue.

I have spoke with the pilots and have been flying in the area for the last several days. The pilots have told me and I have observed that they tend to be 500 to 1000 feet above the minimum altitudes when the weather is not a factor. I have instructed them to select routes that allow for the highest altitudes ( 4500 to 5000 ) and to climb to those altitudes as quickly as possible, preferably before crossing populated areas. The drawback with this approach would be a concentration of aircraft in the area where the weather permits the higher altitude. If the altitude is high enough the reduction in noise should offset the frequency of overflights. At best, this approach might result in significant reductions on clear days with the anticipation of some understanding on days when the weather dose not cooperate.

Darl, thanks for responding,it is appreciated. So,far there are still low flights happening. The FAA told me that you folks are not suppose to fly over structures and livestock as ,well. Also, are you staying in the Nelson corridor? And could we get a copy of a map with that corridor marked mailed to us at out P.O. Box? We want to find a permenet resolution for this problem, especially since the past history of your industry has not been to continue to follow previously laid out solutions, like the Nelson corridor? And altitude? Any solutions you want to offer,we are certainly listening. We want to have some sort of binding solution,so when you are not babysitting, assuming you are successful at getting your pilots away from sensitive areas, the serenity of our airspace continues. Please remember it isn't just about people,it is also about wildlife, livestock, privacy, sacred ceremonies and other issues. The airspace isn't a luxury to them,it is a neccessity. They need their voices too. So,a specific route is neccessary in order to protect all these things. To let you know Darl,we are against flights in the National Park, for above mentioned reasons. That may be a sticking point. We shall see.
