Pheasants, Guineas, Peafowl

The Francolins (3 kind)and Phesants(4 kind) were intoduced for huning purposes. As well as Rio Grande turkeys, quail (3 kind), Doves (4 kind), and Chuckars. I will be up there this year as soon as the season opens. [] There is also a big island bird hunting club. (im not a member, but some may be interested.)

The peafowl in our neighborhood get agitated and frantically vocal when the tsunami sirens are tested. In fact the are considerably louder than the actual sirens, so we joke about our "peafowl early warning system."

I would LOVE to get a couple peacocks and hens. If anyone sees or hears of a breeding pair available, please let me know. Jerry, if you "catch" any in your neighborhood, I would be happy to move them to a nice polace in the rainforest! LOL

Hi again,
From one study I read (which I can't locate) the Kalij are considered detrimental by some groups due to their dispersal off non-native invasive plant species, like Lantana. They are also considered a vector for some avian diseases that effect native Hawaiian species.I am not sure they make a good hunting bird as I don't believe they fly up when scared like Ringnecks, Chukar and Francolins. I think their introduction would be considered successful because they continue to procreate and widen their range without the need of continued introductions to boost the species population. I actually like seeing them...they are beautiful Pheasants.
A Galiform is basically a gamebird...Quail, Partidge, Francolin, Pheasant etc.
Are their feral populations of Peafowl in Puna???
