Superferry, is it good or bad for Hawaii?
What could be "scary" about SF? Are you afraid of a military coup, with armed soldiers in the streets? Mabe the final answer to the drug war! We're leaning left, mabe Chinese solutions will work.
Yep they're mobilising the 25th to eliminate all drugs on BI!

Got a chance to go to Maui from Honolulu on SF. 4 people and a car. Beautiful ride, got a whole new view of the Islands, and the accomodations are great.

This thing is a blessing, and I hope they open Kawaihae for it, it's clean and fast enough, the next one is supposed to serve us, but Kauai has changed their minds, and are now begging to get it.

They do a very thorough vehicle inspection, including the undercarriage. I know, they busted us for litle mud in our wheelwells and made us go back to clean it.

I take it you mean that your party was 4 people and a car, not that the ferry only had 4 people and a car on board. At that rate it would go bust and surly end up transporting military across the Persian Gulf.

Yes they had plenty passengers, and a good load of cars. They are starting to pick up customers. And everyone we talked to loved it, certainly better satisfaction than flying, as baggage and pax are treated the same and squished in.
Slower yes, for all you in a hurry types, it won't be good enough. I think it will do well though.

enjoy it why you can! How long the SF serves Hawaii is up for debate. I for one for the love of God can't figure out how they stay in operation? Only service to one island, and it's down almost half the time too! Somebody has really, really deep pockets or a lot of help in special places. Anyone care to guess?

I'm also willing to bet that the second SF(if there is such a thing) will never ,ever see the shores of the Big Island. People in the proper places will step up and say "NO"! Why? Simple, the HSF is not in the business of steam cleaning every single vehicle that off loads from the SF. Do you think the "Oracles of Honolulu"(politicians)will allow the Big Island to share our frogs or fire ants with the rest of the islands? Guess again!!!

Might be, but mabe not. The SF auto inspection is at least as good as YB's. Nothing is perfect, and if they subject SF to steam cleaning how about all the other carriers?

I think Lingle had knowledge that these guys were financed. Any good startup company needs to be ready for 3 years before profit. The down time was not unusual, gotta get the bugs out. And weather (seas) will always be a factor. It isn't being sold as an airlne alternative, but more like a supplement, for those tired of airlines or want a little more excitement in travel. Or want to save a buck, especially on vehicles.

If the SF is killed it wll be by a hui of the airlines and YB, twisting arms in the goverment.

About 1/2 of the 565$ round trip or 260$. Driving on and off is not hard, Kahului is a little bottlenrck as they improving the exit to the highway.

My neice & nephew who work for Hawaiian use it so they don't have to worry about standby bumps.

Just bought one roundtrip from Oahu to BI for 250$. Bring it on.

to think Hawaiian has some flights that cost upwards in the neighborhood of almost $200.00 one way!
Fuel cost ,fuel cost, up ,up and away!!!! It will be very soon that nobody will be able to travel at all. HSF won't even be able to afford their fuel cost. Right now they are doing what Go Airways did at first. Keep cost down at their expense. Then when the time is right "whamo" ,prices skyrocket back up! Speaking of 'Go Airways', did you see the news last night? 'Go Airways' is now charging to check your first bag in!?!?! They said it was being done to help off set fuel cost increase.

People will have to learn to travel light if they want to save money. There is a certain freedom when arriving at an airport and bypassing the baggage claim not to mention the time saved.
