So why do they call black people "Colored"? [:o)]

is it because "black" is the abscence (spelling) or prescence (spelling) of all color? [^]

We are one race, the human race. All other concepts are meant to divide and most likely conquer. We are all put on this planet together. White is the absence of color. I have never seen a person without color. Maybe because we are "hu-man" beings. "hu-" being short for hue meaning color or shade. I think the Hawaiian Sovereignty movement and the malahini + kamaaina need to be willing to work with one another, compromise, and be willing to give as well as take. Many people have come to call this island home. I don't think the majority of Kingdom members want to kick out all the non-Hawaiians, I think they just want their indigenous right to self rule, self govern as they feel this right was wrongfully taken. The main issues I believe come down to land and sovereignty. By the way, we need to all be a little more "sovereign" when it comes to our food, medicines, and basic way of living.
Rasman,
Technically speaking white is the presents of all color, black is the absence of color.
Racism is inherent in the human condition.
But let’s first make a distinction between being a racist and being a bigot.
You could call your self a racist it you can make any distinction between two races.
Race and breed: What we call breed in the animal world we call race in the human world.
Scientist classify life forms in
Kingdom
Phylum
Class
Order
Family
Geniis
Specie
Then after that you have to break things down in race or breed.
For instance a Chihuahua is the same genus and specie as a Great Dane, just as a Caucasoid is the same genus and specie as a Negroid or Mongoloid.
Within a breed or race you can cross them sexually and have fertile offspring as they share all the important bits of DNA.
If you can make a distinction between races or breeds then you are a racist
If you hold contempt for a race then you are a bigot.
Just like people have their biases between dog breeds, we also have innate biases between races. Steven Pinker describes this as “favor family first” We will tend to support someone in our family first. Then after that we will help someone in our tribe and then move out from there. I can only think that this impulse is the product of evolving in small tribes is a self preservation mechanism.
If you have ever been to a high school pep rally before the big game, you can see a proxy race war in full bloom. Rah! Rah! Rah! kill the Spartans. The air is filled with jingoism.
Another fascinating aspect of this is we can always see fault in the opposing tribe but we tend to forgive or gloss over any inadequacies in our own tribe.
Our politicians tend to play on our natural proclivity for disliking other ilk. That is why they love to foment divisions between parties. They like to divide us in to classes then point out how the other class is trying to screw us.
A word on Fascism,
The pure definition is a system where one group is seen fit to rule or have privilege.
Etymology: Italian fascismo, from fascio bundle, fasces, group, from Latin fascis bundle
Fascism in the world today is found not so much in race or nationality but in some religious sects. Sadam had a form where Sunni Arabs’ held power over Kurds and Shia.
Interestingly enough his Baath political party was modeled after the Nazi (national socialist party) made infamous by a guy named Hitler.
The question is, how does the belief system of the Kau Inoa tie in?

That was beautifully said Rasman! I am a person of many ethnic heritages and a new Hawaiian citizen. I think more than anything people who move here and do not give back to the islands and her people are the intruders. Yes, people came here and took advantage of the Hawaiian people, but this happened all over the world and all over America bit by bit.
Thank God Hawaii has not become a place of "reservations" and Casinos, which have nothing to do with the heart of the people and their right to govern and live lives as they wish to.
It is not a question of tolerance, but a question of support of the people and land of Hawaii, treating all with respect and aloha. This includes what you said about being more "sovereign" when it comes to our food, medicines, and basic way of living.
My great great grandfather was a Hawaiian who came to Northern California in 1849, he married my great great grandmother who was a native American Indian. The rest of my relatives are of European descent. I have many other cultures in my ethnic background, like most Americans. That tiny bit of Hawaiian blood in me, has blended with other cultures and I am a homogenous blend of many cultures, each that I connect to and care about, but it also leaves me as an outsider when it comes to my Hawaiian and American Indian heritage. Even the beloved Princess Kaiulani was of mixed heritage. Where does it stop? Or where does it start?
In Fiji this has become an ongoing problem. East Indians were brought in by the Brits who colonized Fiji as indentured workers. Over time their industrious nature brought them to the economic and political majority. The English gave Fiji back to the people... well sort of, the queen is still on their money. And then the Coups began. This happens about every 20 years in Fiji, and then eventually things go back to the way they were. IN essence their fight was rather futile, though it remains in our minds and did a good job of frightening tourists in 2000. We were there then.
There has to be a way to work together for a resolution in some sort of harmony that is going to benefit Hawaii in all of her forms. It will take willing hearts and a spirit of collaboration and probably some ingenuity. I personally have no answers, but I would also like to see a resolution of this issue that benefits and unites all of Hawaii's people.

It's more and more obvious every day, or should be, that the "oppressor" thing isn't nearly as much a race issue as a class issue. I really believe that 9 times out of 10 race issues are stirred up deliberately to obscure this fact.

How do you give back to the islands? I seriously want to know - I am not a "taker" by nature, but is there something I should do once I get on island?

How do we give back to the Islands?
I believe that it's up to the people of ALL races to perpetuate the Hawaiian culture. Simple math and the fact that pure hawaiians don't always marry pure Hawaiians means the Hawaiian "race" will continue to be diminished in numbers.
There are lots of ways to "give back"; Join a canoe club or hula halau, take a hawaiian language course, or get involved in the preservation of native plant species.
Grow and promote Kalo, u'ala, and 'ulu.
