Florida didn't want the gaming. If the tribes are going to insist on having it on their land in a state that doesn't want it then there should be a border fence and the need to pass through customs. That would cut into their tax free cigarette sales too.

gambling is a bad thing!
It keeps poor people poor.
But hey go for it, you'll never catch me doing it. I bet ya.
Seriously I never buy lotto tickets and have been to casinos all over the world and I just look at those fools in amazement.
Nuff said.

I thought living on the side of an active volcano WAS gambling (or buying a house?)!
I've spent a few days conventioneering at Atlantic City NJ and those addicts are not a pleasant sight. I'd hate to attract them to this lovely tropical isle and displace the cows and turkeys I saw along Saddle Rd.

I always thought that lotto tickets were a tax on those that can't do math...

The middle of Saddle RD... ie PTA??? Most of the lands in that area are critical cultural areas & critical habitat (even much of PTA... this is why the army is one of the largest employers of ecologists & cultural anthropologists on island...)
The regulations on Hawaiian Homelands is very detailed & would require a huge variance in order to allow gaming (even the industrial & resort development have had to be addressed...)

I like living near a casino. You get subsidised food, sometimes free drinks, lots of acts turn up to perform, the state even receives some huge voluntary tax payments - if they play their cards right.
The millions of dollars going towards Las Vegas are such a waste, keep it here!
It's worth the risk.

conversely, Don't all those gamblers that go to Las Vegas bring their massive winnings back to Hawaii to spend ?
There are a lot of winners, right ?

Have you heard about this little thing called the
United Sates Constitution?
Don't fault the Tribes for a bad mistake Florida made.
