We have had about 8" just north of Hilo since yesterday at 4 pm.
We drove up to Waimea this morning and there were a lot of rock slides. On the way back (about 10:30) they were trying do some kind of a rescue where a car went off the side of the road and over a cliff just south of Honokaa. Then, closer to our house the beltway was closed and policemen were diverting traffic up through Paukaa.
My guess is a mud slide.

We went over to Spencers beach & Waikaloa today, it was raining there, too & friends that came into Hilo from Waikiki also had rain at their home yesterday, sot this really is a statewide event. We took Saddle road both ways & it sounds like that was the way to go today.
Friday night there was a load of new snow on the mountain (according to a friend that works at Gemini) so if there is any clearing in the clouds in the next month, there should be snow on the mountain!

We did the same as we had to go to KOA to pick someone up. We hesitated but decided saddle road would not slide off! [
] Boy, the new part is nice! From before Mauna Kea Camp to about Kona Palisades no rain. It was pouring in Kona till about 2 PM and then dry till we got above Waikoloa Village.
10" ? WOW!

We arrive in Hilo tomorrow, so we obviously have an interest in the weather forecast. Would somebody be kind enough to let us know what is being forecasted for the next few days?
Mahalo.
