It is not sick, it is a form of gallows humor (usually extreme sarcasm as in Bob's and my posts both).
"Gallows humor is a type of humor that arises from stressful, traumatic, or life-threatening situations; often in circumstances such that death is perceived as impending and unavoidable. Author and playwright Oscar Wilde was destitute and living in a cheap boarding house when he found himself on his deathbed. There are variations on what the sentence exactly was, but his reputed last words were, "My wallpaper and I are fighting a duel to the death; one or the other of us has got to go."(from Wikipedia)."
It is actually a pretty typical - no different than someone who giggles when some one else gets hurt. It is a transference of the feeling of fear so that you can continue to act. Many EMT's call motorcycle riders "organ donors".
I do not think that in any of the posts any one wants someone to be hurt - that they were in effect the worst case scenario for what will happen if this area is left as is. It may not be your response, but do not think for one second that I do not believe this is a dangerous area.
