Don't ask/don't tell (cause and effect)
#26
hawaiideborah, mahalo for your discussion about my post.

Repeal of DADT has the possibility of lowering morale, increasing the percentage of early outs and lowering recruitment numbers, all of which during wartime or peacetime can affect our National(and Pohakuloa's)security.

Let's see if I can make that leap you mentioned with the following scenario.

Personnel housed in a 30 man berthing area aboard ship (where they sleep stacked 3 high and have 1 open shower area) learn that 2 gay men are housed in the same berthing compartment. They make a request up their chain of command that the 2 men be moved to another location. Doesn't seem like much of a leap does it? Now, should they be housed in female berthing or one of their own?
This type of scenario is the reason for all of the talk about divulging your orientation ahead of time, so that personnel(a military member from Puna)may be housed in the correct location(spending more of the Puna taxpayer's money).

Let me try and make that leap another way.
If Johnny is against homosexuality because of his religion or the values that he holds for himself, should he be forced to share a shower, sleeping and changing area with a gay man?

That's why being REQUIRED to declare your sexual preference may be an unintended consequence of the repeal of DADT.

Aloha
