mahalo keaauRich for your input.
As you mentioned, you are a homosexual and will probably see it from that angle, which is understandable. I suppose as a gay man this looks like a great idea,....showering, changing and sleeping in the same berthing area with 30 other males. Now try and see it from the other side.
One note I must clear up, I never mentioned gays recruiting straights, gay rape or any physical contact whatsoever. And I never said gays should not be in the Military.
That being said, If 29 straight males live in a 30 man berthing area and they all know there is one gay man bunked there also, do you really believe there will be no tension, problems or uncomfortableness felt while showering, changing or sleeping, by any of the 29 others? If you do, I wonder what planet you are from (maybe Canada...is that a planet). Soldiers and Sailors are not robots, they have feelings also. That is why scenarios like this are being adressed and discussed now, it could affect retention and recruitment rates down the line.
This is a question I asked earlier, please look at it from both sides; If a homosexual is attracted to another homosexual the same way a heterosexual is attracted to another heterosexual, shouldn't they be seperated as males and females are now? Correct me if i'm wrong but homosexuals are not just attracted to other homosexuals, but to the same sex. They don't know if someone is gay or not when they are first attracted to that person.
You would have to check with Rob about the extra credit, it didn't work for me.
Mahalo for your comment theodorejay, I agree with you that the military may loose some qualified and capable gay people but the real concern coming from the brass at the moment is that their worried they may loose even more qualified and capable straight personnel because of the repeal.
Aloha.
