Post and Pier vs. Concrete Slab

We are going to build a house in Fern Acres on Hibiscus Street within the next year. Does anyone have an opinion as to which way to go concerete slab or post and pier? So far my price quotes show concrete slab to be a cheaper way to go. What are the advantages and disadvantages of both? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give us.
