power sprayer/painting recommendations

I am planning on painting my house myself. I am assuming I need to buy a power sprayer to clean the house off with/remove paint chips. Then, the next assumption is that I should buy a sprayer that I can carry up on a tall ladder to paint. Any recommendations or advice? Any one have their house painted by someone else? How did it go and how much did it cost? Mahalo!
