Many people I have known have had a $$ problem with guys they hire to excavate. They take a 50% deposit and you never see them again. I STRONGLY recommend you not give them a deposit until the end of their first day of work. You have then guaranteed they will have the excavator delivered and work has begun I would NOT pay the final amount until they arrive to remove the machine from your property. I had one guy leave a machine here for around four months and it was totally in the way for further work. I finally found someone with a universal CAT key and he moved it to the back corner of our 30 acres of property. Amazingly the guy knew within days that it was "missing". I told him you move it, so come get it. He never did. Turns out he had borrowed the machine from another guy. When the other guy called me I called the police to confirm the registered owner of the equipment then let him come get it. It was a mess.
