Aloha! Lots of good questions out there. We strongly urge owners to obtain a written contract with your licensed wastewater contractor before they begin work or you make any payment to them. It makes us very sad when we hear about folks who made a 50 percent down payment to someone they thought was reputable and legal, only to discover that they have been cheated and have very little recourse. The Health Department will only accept wastewater systems from contractors with the following licenses: A (general engineering), C-43 (septic), C-9 (cesspool), or C-37/C-37a (plumber).
