Here's a scenario nobody has mentioned: would you want to live next door (average sized lot, not the one acre and bigger lots many or most of us have here) to a home that was wired by a non-professional? Ever come home from college to see your home burnt to the ground due to faulty wiring?? I have and it sucked the wind right out of my sails. We didn't even consider compromising on electric or plumbing, even though we helped both men in their duties (me: lunch maker and goffer) and Ralph was the biggest assistant. We know people who spend as much money to ''buy the license" as it would be to just have it done professionally (fully recognizing that to be a very lose term). We built EVERYTHING else ourselves but as we say in the airline biz, not doing it (plumbing and electric) right was a no go item!
