Our last house was a cedar sided house stained a really dark chocolate, we used a Thompson semi-transparent penetrating stain in a light grey & it lighten up the house, allowing some of the darker tone through but much lighter
This house we are using a light grey Benjamin & Moore solid stain for the Hardipanel, & it has covered & stuck to the painted T1-11 & Masonite battens.
Since I have never had a lot of 2nd story outiside painting, I have used a brush (the cedar was nice with a special rough siding brush that looked more like an large pad brush)
