Disposal of old propane cannisters?

But it's almost my birthday and I can do whatever I want. Also, I want to test my theory that polynesians arrived here from the area we now know as West Hollywood using nearly spent propane tanks as flotation devices. The people down in Seaview look A LOT like the people in West Hollywood. Gonna write a book about my theory and then have someone else test it out. People will remember the adventure (someone else's, 'cause I have no intention of riding across the ocean on on a propane cannister), but forget the cockamamie theory.
