coconuts and mango struggle, and Im sure other types of fruit trees too.
where I am its more about how much rain ie too much rain in upper Puna for some types of crops or trees ... but then there are crops that thrive in the rain too that wont grow well lower in the hotter rain shadows along the Puna coast.
best areas IMO for most crops is in between coastal and upland areas ie about the level of hwy 130 or lower Orchidland/upper HPP where the rain amounts is in between as well...
