quote:Yes Julie, a new flow, and yes it's still flowing in the same general direction towards the densest populated part of Puna. In the short run this may have slowed the forward progress of the overall flow activity in relationship to developed property, but in the long run I suspect this is making the potential for long lived flows in this direction much greater.

OK, so I am slightly confused. If the K2 flow has stopped, but this river of lava is flowing nearby- is this considered a "new flow"? Is this river of lava flowing towards 130? Thanks
The large amount of flow.. volume.. distance traveled etc., seen in yesterday's onset of this new flow I assume is a function of how much lava that was perched within the Puu Oo crater was released. Future flow rates would be a function of how much magma is coming into the system from the summit of Kilauea. Though I suspect with the absence of forest to flow through the new flow should advance relatively rapidly in the short run. Fun, eh!?!
