The beautiful yellow/green church (with the soaring ceilings, incredible wood floors, and memories memories, memories) that lived for years beside the Kea'au Post Office was not, in fact, torn down. It was moved. By a visionary local guy named Ken (who saved heaps of East Hawaii plantation-style redwood-homes as well). It currently lives, minus its steeple, on 14th. Between Kaloli & Paradise. A yoga-center for a good long time (though I haven't been by in a couple years. May have been sold/changed-hands?).
