People of Leilani ordered tested ? - PGV
#11
The geothermal company said that it was a procedural emergency steam release that was “scrubbed” with caustic soda and water to remove the hydrogen sulfide.
The company also noted that the “peak” instance of hydrogen sulfide was 25 parts per billion, while state Department of Health regulation specifies that acceptable limits are 25 parts per billion on an “hourly average.” To put this into perspective, it is important to note that OSHA standards allow workers without protective equipment to work in an area with 10,000 parts per billion.
There are about 70 employees and contractors at the PGV site on Pohoiki Road in Pahoa supporting the maintenance activity, and we have no reports of illness or nausea.
