There is plenty of carpentry work in Hilo, I don't see it slowing down anytime soon. We have trouble finding good guys. I work for a contractor, e-mail a resume to emily@jemerk.com if you want to.
The Hilo side is wonderful! Kona is nice to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.
We are up in Mountain View - 2,000 ft elevation. It's nice and cool nights and mornings. We had 248 inches of rain in 2005. It's nice and quiet. The best part is I can take the Stainback Highway into work and there are NO stoplights the whole way! It's far better than taking the I-55 into Chicago! Oh, the best part is the weather. The best part is the ocean and the hiking and the views - Ok, you can tell I think it's pretty nice here
