I bought in Seaview aka (Kalapana Seaview Estates) and didn't really consider anywhere else because at the time, I bought it sort of just in case when prices were much lower, thinking someday we might want to build a vacation rental or retire there in 30 years. After visiting my lot that quickly became, let's build in 5 years, which became let's move in 5 years! And now it's getting harder and harder to wait that long. I'm totally satisfied with my purchase because it has an ocean view, has a beach within walking distance, doesn't rain too much, is not in the jungle, everyone I've met in the neighborhood is friendly and mostly recent transplants. Although the neighborhood has the potential to get more crowded, the area still feels very much away from it all. Although if we end up working in Hilo the commute might get old fast. I guess I'd rather have ended up in Puna Palisades because the lots are bigger, but it's too expensive and a lot of the lots have poor ocean views. The main downside for me in Seaview is that the lots are small (7500-10,000 sq ft) and it seems difficult to plan for a house, pool, and yard space given the setback restrictions and room taken up by a catchment tank and septic system.
