You will hear many things. I sent two of my kids to Keonepoko. First and foremost, know that Keonepoko, Pahoa, keaau, mountain view schools serve the most poorest segments of the state of Hawaii. To no fault of anyone, this is the reality of where we live. Schools that lie in these regions have special programs and external dollars geared to fund fund them. Long story short, kindergarten and 1st grade is as good as anywhere. As students progress to the higher grades however, I must say that the challenges grew larger. Much of the problems stem from home. Im sure all schools deal with bad parenting. The poor regions seem to up the ante a bit. Lots of good teachers, but some who are not. There are sheer realities to going to a school that serves a high percentage of kids from the lower end of the economic scale. I do not fault the poor for any of this.rather, this is Puna. Puna is host to old residents, new residents, those who have, and many many more who have not.
