Lava flow approching Emergency Road and Ocean
#9
PaulW: to answer your question it depends on what kind of a walker you are. From a shuffler to a smooth strider to full golfers gait. But whatever, lets just say the average mile is walked in 15 minutes. From where you have to park, past 2 gates, up to where the lava is seems longer than 3 miles. More like 4. The oozing red stuff was an addition half mile hike off road when I went, last full moon, (best time to do it btw) for a total of 9 miles. Sounds like it's right at the road now so 8 miles and 2 hours round trip. Plus the time to take pictures and gawk in awe at Pele's magnificence
