We are lucky to dodge the hurricane bullet, time after time, but that doesn't mean that is a reason to get cocky, just be thankful. Maku'u is a great farmer's market but it has become too much tourist junk, the usual food and trinket stands.

Maybe you should blame me and Ku'ulei S. for putting the Market there.
We had a choice between Pahoa (where a remnant of the original market still stands today) or the Maku'u Farmers Association.
If you can do anything, you should try for a Wednesday evening farmer's produce only from 5 to 9 or a Saturday produce only market. It would be very convenient to buy weekly produce without having to wade through food and trinket stands.
