NHH took the position of not vacating, until, we could be heard at a Council meeting.
We maintain that there is no justification for Parks & Rec. in denying us our community sport.
There was a prelim meeting scheduled with Roxie (Parks & Rec.).
The meeting was put on hold due to the Leilani eruption and we believed that we we would eventually have our say with the Council.
To our surprise, we once again received a rather curt notice from Parks & Rec.s to vacate.
It was immaterial to Roxie that we were right in the middle of summer programs, youth
classes, weekend races.
Many of our 200 plus members contacted our Rep.s and Chair of Parks & Rec.s committee, J.Ruggles. Our rep.s listened & are supportive
. Na Hoa Holomoku was placed on the agenda for August 7. and yet Parks & Rec. still wanted us to vacate prior to this hearing & resolution.
We have done nothing wrong, contribute to the community and have never requested any monetary contribution from the State or County. We are not asking for a soccer field, a pickle ball court, or a facility to engage in aerobics ( all valid activities).
I doubt we will be meeting their imposed deadline to vacate.
Now, we do have legal representation, do expect to maintain a spot on Hilo Bay validated by an updated Memorandum of Agreement........and while we're asking, we would also like the same privledge enjoyed by our canoe clubs.......access to county water and the ability to safely secure our property.
It is so sad that Parks & Rec. has taken this position with us. We are taxpayers and citizens. I for one do not care at all for the heavy hand in which they have chosen to use.
