Kalakoa: "Only problem with this: there's nothing else in Pahoa -- I can't amorize (sp) the travel by stopping at Walmart and/or Home Depot."
Perhaps not to those big box stores, but many of us could run lots of errands in Pahoa before the eruption, and still do (and avoid the trip to Hilo):
- on the way into town ( from OLE) I get propane, water, and make a trash run
- in town, I get food ( Malama or Island Natch, depending on the sales ), swing by Ace Hardware or NAPA, go to the Credit Union/Bank, get gas ( usually cheaper than Hilo ), pick up books at the library, go to the post office, and hopefully soon again, go to the pool.
I, for one, am looking forward to having new restaurants, and a bigger supermarket. ( Personally, I hope the old Malama becomes a bigger Ace Hardware, with an expanded lumber section.). And if the rumor of Dunkin' Donuts becomes reality, I expect to gain more than a few pounds from their raspberry jam crullers.
