I suppose thats as good of reason as any for a banking reset, either that or hackers will steal the money.
They sell whole house surge suppressors that are supposed to protect items within the house. but the things in the house wont run if the power lines are melted. The power grid is woefully unprepared for such events, either EMP or Carrington. Maybe even worse considering how everything is done in Hawaii.
Remember Iselle wrecking the power grid? imagine what would happen if the power company is unable to have the ability to source replacement parts.
Perishable food would spoil, gas wont pump, everything would shut down. Weeks would turn into years before power was restored if ever. Luckily in Hawaii freezing to death is not a huge problem.
Im not sure even people on solar would be immune to the effects. Society is fragile and nobody knows how to live like it was 1880 anymore. There are only a couple of preps that you could have, a storage of food and an operational farm as well as a means to protect your food supply from neighbors/anyone who wants to take it away from you. There would be no continuity in government, nobody is going to come help. your on your own. Perhaps you could right now get to know the neighbors and have some sort of support group where you can rely on each other. But if things get really bad that might fall apart.
Its something to think about anyway. How well do you get along with everyone in your neighborhood? Which ones will be the troublemakers? Which ones would you have to worry about coming into your house at 3am and stealing what you have left? Which ones could you rely on watching out for you?
