Cindy, your electric bill is gonna be sky high if you have an AC running 24/7. Plus, your son will never get use to the sub-tropical climate with an AC and will always be screaming to return to Oregon. But now this is where, I forgot who suggest it? Volcano comes in! The climate there in Volcano offers what I think is your best chances of being able to stay in Hawaii without your son putting up a fuss. It has a very cool climate with plenty of rain in which you'll never need an AC or the high electric bill that comes with owning one! Plus, your son just might find he will enjoy the outside there too. I think it's an awesome area. For me it's just to far to Hilo from Volcano on a daily basis. Give you an idea on the climate around Volcano Cindy. A lot of homes in that area have fireplaces!
