ok while we are off topic ...

cant leave your place in costa rica un attended either ... the local version of squatters rights makes it almost impossible to get your house back if "locals' move in after you leave ...
pacific side is ok as far as safety, atlantic side ...can be dicey wear a money belt, keep your passport in a safe at the hotel and carry photocopies...
my favorite - the howler monkeys that hide in the trees and toss feces at unsuspecting gringos
