The Thompson is the grape if you can get it happy. I grew up in the desert of Cali and we had two one-hundred foot rows of both Thompson and Concord fed entirely from chicken droppings. A bumper crop each year. These grapes like sun and heat like tomatoes. I've tried the 'Flame' but with no results but always looking for a grape which will actually produce here in Black Sands Sub Division at circa 900 feet and buggy as hell.
I'm not able to drive but if you can work out the logistics catz I have the Samoans in various sizes in pots and ready to go, although, since they're such a delicate plant, I do recommend they not be put in the ground until the cool weather returns. Remember the story of Captain Bligh and the 'Mutany On the Bounty'? It was all due to the plant's inability to be effectively taken as a cutting or root cutting.
