Cars that don't pollute as they go down the street (like the Indian one) seem like a good idea to me. If you must pollute then do it centrally and maybe it can be dealt with. But pollute it will, the energy to compress the air has to come from somewhere.

"Tank full of air equivalent to 2 litres of petrol" I wouldn't be planning on any long trips!
